Description
The effect of ChromaFlair is achieved by interfering with the reflection and refraction of light from the painted object's surface. The paint contains tiny synthetic flakes about one micrometer thick. The flakes are constructed of aluminum coated with glass-like magnesium fluoride embedded in semi-translucent chromium.
Unlike ordinary pearlescent pigments, ChromaFlair flakes include a center aluminum layer is surrounded by a glass-like layer. Changing the thickness of this glass-like layer produces different colors, and allows all seven standard colors to be made from the same three ingredients. To maintain the tight color tolerance required by the automotive industry, layer thickness must be controlled to within a few atoms.
