Description
Gabions is made of double twisted hexagonal woven steel wire mesh, as per ASTM A97597.Gabions are filled with stones at the project site to form flexible, permeable, monolithic structures such as retaining walls, channel linings, and weirs for erosion control projects.Gabion boxes are wire containers made of hexagonal wire nettings.Wire diameter varies with the hexagonal nettings.
Gabions are environment friendly and cost effective comparing with other options. The advantages of cost and the fact that Gabion boxcan withstand the bad environment for very long time have made the use widespread.
Gabions coated galfan (zinc-5% aluminum-mischmetal [Zn-5 Al-MM] alloy) possess corrosion resistance. However used in polluted, contaminated or aggressive environments: in salt, fresh water, acid soil etc bad environment. It must be superior to electric galvanized and hot dipped galvanized It can used 40-50years in bad environment .Meets the ASTM A 856 / A 856M standard.。
The gabion is divided into cells by diaphragms positioned at approximately 3 ft (0.9 m) centers. To reinforce the structure, all mesh panel edges are selvedged with a wire having a greater diameter.
Galfan Gabions offer enhanced durability, and are available upon request. This coating type is the most durable wire coating available internationally and is being increasingly used within Australia to ensure gabion structures achieve a longer design life (2 to 3 times more durable than zinc coatings of the same mass), thereby significantly reducing the life-cycle cost of the structure.
