What is guarana extract?
Guarana extract is prepared from theclimbing vine, guarana (scientific name Paullinia cupana).
Sapindaceae, native to the Amazon basin and especially common in Brazil. It is mainly cultivatedin Yunnan, Hainan provinces in China. The fruitsof the guarana plant contain twice to thrice the amount of caffeine present incoffee beans (approximately 4 percent), xanthine and tannins. Guarana has many synonyms(other names): Brazilian cocoa, paullinia, cupana, guarana bread, zoom andguarana gum or paste.
Guarana seeds individually have morecaffeine in them than coffee beans, making them an efficient way of releasingthe stimulant through diet aids. Caffeine, including that found in guaranaextract, works to increase alertness and suppress appetite. The InternationalFood Information Council Foundation (IFIC) reports on a 1996 study thatconcluded caffeine also enhances physical performance. Researchers fromCanada's University of Guelph found that by consuming about 6 mg of caffeineper kilogram of body weight, athletes experienced increases in muscularendurance during exercise. In non-athletes, lower doses produced similarresults, and the greatest effect, says the IFIC, came when participants tookcaffeine one hour before physical activity.
Benefits of taking guarana extract:
1. promotes mentalalertness and reduces fatigue
2. good for weight loss. Guarana extract reduces appetite and cravings for food, whilestimulating the body metabolic processes. Hence, it helps in burning theaccumulated fats and lipids, as an energy source for the body cells andtissues.
3. Pain Relief : Traditionally, guarana seed extract has been used as a treatmentfor migraine headache, rheumatism and menstrual pain.
