Electronic information lock is a programmable data storage device, which is commonly used as a wagon door lock. Its information can be accessed and retrieved via a fixed track side or handheld reader or PC.

Electronic lock consist of antenna, integrated circuit chip, metal lock clasp and lock bar.

It can identify lock number and other saved information of lock at high speed. Stored information includes: Lock id, wagon id/name, wagon origin, wagon destination, wagon cargo etc. Information stored in the lock is read by the track side readers as the train passes. Trackside readers are installed on both sides of the rail track and the lock information is automatically captured, read and transmitted to a control room. This information can be integrated into the rail operator's management system, providing real time information for further processing and monitoring.

The infomation lock can also be read by using the portable hand held reader whilst the train is stationary. It is also used for manual reading where an operator actually walks the train and quickly reads/scans each information lock. This information can be directly transmitted to the main control room.
